Cellular Communicators
Cellular communicators transmit alarm signals from intrusion and fire panels to the central monitoring station over LTE, 5G, or legacy cellular networks. They provide the primary path on cellular-only installations and the backup path on dual-path IP and cellular systems.
Plan Your Deployment
- Network (AT&T or Verizon LTE, 5G roadmap) for regional coverage
- Dual-path vs. cellular-primary configuration
- Panel compatibility (universal vs. manufacturer-specific)
- Antenna options: internal, external whip, or directional for weak-signal areas
- UL and CSFM listings for commercial fire and burglar use
What to Look For
LTE/5G sunset dates drive hardware refresh cycles; verify the communicator will be supported on the carrier for the expected life of the panel. Site-survey signal strength before ordering, and specify an external antenna if signal is below -90 dBm. UL 864 and UL 1610 cover commercial fire and burglar signaling respectively.
Common Deployment Scenarios
Cellular communicators are deployed on retail stores in remote locations, critical infrastructure sites without reliable broadband, and any alarm system requiring dual-path signaling for UL certification. They are also the standard takeover path when a central station migrates a legacy POTS account.
