TP-Link RE220 AC750 WiFi Range Extender
Overview
The TP-Link RE220 is a wall-mounted WiFi range extender that fills coverage gaps in offices, warehouses, and facilities where access points leave dead zones. It operates at 750 Mbps combined throughput across dual bands (2.4 GHz and 5 GHz), making it suitable for extending coverage to areas where security cameras, access points, or mobile devices experience weak signal. Position the RE220 between an existing access point and problem areas—corridors, storage zones, or outdoor edges—to bridge connectivity without adding a separate network.
Compatibility
The RE220 extends any 802.11ac router or access point already deployed in your network. It supports OneMesh integration, allowing seamless roaming across compatible TP-Link routers and extenders when configured via the TP-Link Tether app or web interface. Dual-band operation lets you assign latency-sensitive devices (IP cameras, warehouse scanners, badge readers) to the faster 5 GHz band while maintaining backward compatibility with older equipment on 2.4 GHz. Setup methods include WPS button pairing (fastest for plug-and-play), the TP-Link Tether mobile app, or web browser configuration.
Installation Notes
Wall mounting keeps the unit out of floor traffic and simplifies power access. Position the extender within 30–40 feet line-of-sight of the primary access point to maximize efficiency and minimize throughput loss. As a range extender rather than a dedicated access point, the RE220 shares bandwidth with the originating AP—throughput to clients connected to the extender will be roughly half the advertised rate due to half-duplex operation. This is acceptable for moderate camera streams or warehouse RF scanning but not for high-bandwidth PoE camera clusters or heavy concurrent traffic.
