STI STI-1229-WD Stopper® Dome Strobe Protective Cover
Overview
The STI-1229-WD is a clear polycarbonate protective dome designed to shield strobe warning appliances from environmental damage while maintaining full light output. This NEMA 4X-rated accessory fits enclosed back box installations and prevents weathering, UV degradation, and impact damage to strobe lenses — critical in outdoor alarm and emergency notification deployments where visual signal integrity must survive years of salt spray, freeze-thaw cycles, and direct sun exposure. Mount it on existing warning appliance installations per NFPA 72 codes.
Compatibility
The STI-1229-WD works with strobe-only warning appliances in standard back box enclosures. Compatible with AMSECO colored lens kits (SL24W-153075 series) if additional visual filtering is needed. This dome is not designed for horn-strobe combinations — use only on strobe-only units. Verify your existing appliance carries an outdoor rating before deploying outdoors; the dome protects the lens but requires the underlying strobe to be rated for external exposure.
Installation Notes
Position the clear section directly centered over the strobe light lens to avoid light loss transmission — off-center placement degrades visible output and compromises alarm reliability. Installation requires six 3/16-inch (4.7 mm) diameter holes drilled 1 inch (25 mm) deep into the mounting surface. Kit includes six rawl plugs, four #10 × 1-1/2 inch screws, six #8-32 socket head cap screws, six washers, gaskets, and a conduit sealing gasket. For high-corrosion environments (coastal, chemical, severe freeze-thaw), order the optional SUB-123 Enviro Kit for additional stainless hardware and reinforced gaskets. All installations must comply with NEC, NFPA 72, and local fire codes.
