Description

Comnet COMPAK1EOC Ethernet to Copper/Coax Media Converter

Overview

The COMPAK1EOC is a compact 10/100Mbps media converter that bridges Ethernet to coaxial or twisted-pair copper cabling — solving the distance and cost problem when running new structured cable is impractical. Deploy this where existing coax infrastructure exists (legacy analog runs, long-distance surveillance links) and you need to carry IP video or data across it without ripping cable.

Compatibility

Works with any standard RJ45 Ethernet source (IP cameras, NVRs, switches, industrial computers) that can tolerate 1–76 Mbps throughput on the copper side. Coaxial connections accept standard BNC connectors; twisted-pair uses unshielded Category 5 or better. No vendor lock-in — IEEE 802.3 compliant, so any standards-based surveillance system (ONVIF-compliant cameras, Milestone, VMS platforms) will integrate without special drivers.

Installation Notes

Power input accepts 2–27 VAC or 8–27 VDC — flexible enough for most on-site supplies or PoE+ injectors (though this unit itself does not provide PoE). Coaxial runs max out at 1500 ft; twisted-pair extends to 10,000 ft but at reduced throughput (0.25–1 Mbps depending on gauge and distance). Run short Ethernet patch cables to the RJ45 port; no special tools required beyond a standard network punch-down kit if terminating twisted pair locally. Operating range 0°C to +60°C keeps it safe in outdoor cabinets and unheated warehouses. If stacking multiple units, confirm power supply capacity beforehand — each unit draws modest current but parallel installs add up quickly.
