Description

Comnet CNFE2EOC Ethernet-to-Coax Media Converter

Overview

The Comnet CNFE2EOC is a standalone 10/100 Mbps media converter that bridges Ethernet over existing coaxial or twisted-pair infrastructure — solving the cable-run problem in surveillance retrofits where pulling new fiber or UTP would be cost-prohibitive or structurally infeasible. The unit carries 91 Mbps across distances up to 10,000 feet, enough headroom for standard megapixel camera streams without compression penalty. Two RJ45 ports accept Ethernet in; BNC connectors patch to coax or twisted pair on the return leg. Operating range of 12–24 VDC/AC keeps integration simple in mixed-voltage environments (common in retrofit integrations where legacy power supplies dominate).

Compatibility

Works with any camera, NVR, or edge device that outputs standard 10/100 Ethernet — no protocol translation, no proprietary drivers. Pairs cleanly in systems running IP cameras from any ONVIF-compliant vendor (Axis, Hikvision, Dahua, Uniview, etc.) feeding dedicated network video recorders or cloud gateways. Common retrofit scenario: legacy coax runs from the 1990s–2000s carrying analog video are being abandoned; the CNFE2EOC lets you reuse those same runs for Ethernet, eliminating the need to pull new cable through walls, conduit, or aerial spans. Also compatible with building-wide structured cabling systems where coax was the original medium.

Installation Notes

Mount in a dry location (operating spec lists dry locations only — avoid direct spray or condensing environments). The compact form factor (.156 × .313 inch footprint) fits DIN-rail mounting or desktop placement near patch panels. Each unit draws 1 A maximum at rated voltage, so a single 24 VDC wall supply can daisy-chain multiple converters if needed. Cable runs should follow standard coax or twisted-pair practice — secure connectors firmly and avoid sharp bends near the BNC terminations to prevent intermittent connection loss. The 10,000-foot distance spec assumes proper impedance matching on the coax side; verify cable type (RG-6 or equivalent) before deployment.
