The Viking Electronics K-1705-3-BN is a vandal-resistant, telephone-line-powered video entry phone designed for commercial door entry, apartment vestibules, and controlled-access residential applications where aesthetics matter. The oil rubbed bronze powder-coated finish over a 14-gauge louvered 316 stainless steel faceplate delivers a distinctive look without sacrificing the structural integrity integrators expect at exterior entry points. It ships ready for flush mounting using the included rough-in box, or converts to surface mount with the optional VE-6x7 surface box — one SKU covers both rough-in and retrofit installs. The K-1705-3-BN draws power directly from the telephone line (20V DC, 20mA minimum), eliminating the need for a dedicated power supply run to the door.

Compatibility

The K-1705-3-BN belongs to the Viking Electronics K-1705-3 Series of video entry phones with keypads. It is the oil rubbed bronze finish variant of the same platform as the K-1705-3 (brushed stainless). Both share identical electrical and mounting footprints, making them interchangeable within the same rough-in box. Camera video output requires RG59 or RG6 coax with a solid center conductor and 95% bare copper braid shield — standard RG59/RG6 with stranded or aluminum braid center will degrade image quality and is not supported. The integrated keypad supports door code entry on compatible Viking door entry systems. For applications requiring proximity card access in addition to keypad, the K-1770-3 Series is the appropriate upgrade path within the Viking lineup. Surface mount installations require the separately sold VE-6x7 surface mount box.

Installation Notes

Flush mount: install using the included rough-in box — confirm wall cutout dimensions against the rough-in box template before cutting. Surface mount: order the VE-6x7 separately; the entry phone mounts directly to it without additional hardware. Coax run for the color video camera must be RG59 or RG6 with solid center conductor and 95% bare copper braid shield — spec the cable before pulling wire. Telephone line must supply a minimum of 20V DC at 20mA; verify line voltage at the door end, not only at the panel, to account for drop over long runs. The switch is internally sealed to IP67, so the button assembly withstands temporary water immersion, but the overall unit installation should still be protected from direct sustained water exposure consistent with the mounting environment.
