Overview
Honeywell LTE-IA Dual-Path AT&T LTE Alarm Communicator
Overview
The Honeywell LTE-IA is a dual-path alarm communicator providing AT&T 4G LTE Cat 1 cellular and internet connectivity for VISTA-series control panels. It transmits alarm signals, supervisory events, and status reports to the central monitoring station using 256-bit AES encryption over both communication paths, ensuring signal delivery even if one path is disrupted.
Deployment scenarios
The LTE-IA is the primary communication upgrade path for existing VISTA installations replacing legacy phone-line dialers or sunset 3G/CDMA communicators. Dual-path operation is required by many insurance carriers and meets UL/ULC requirements for dual-communication commercial monitoring. It also enables remote panel programming and interactive services.
Communication specifications
The unit operates on AT&T 4G LTE Cat 1 with an internal penta-band antenna featuring receive diversity. Reporting uses Full Contact ID format. Encryption is 256-bit AES. The communicator connects to the VISTA panel via the 4-wire ECP bus.
Power and installation
Power input is 16.5 V AC 40 VA transformer with a 6 V 3.1 AH backup battery. Dimensions are 8.4" x 8.0" x 1.5". Compatible with VISTA-15P, VISTA-20P, VISTA-128BPT, and VISTA-250BPT panels.

The LTE-IA is the standard AT&T communicator upgrade for VISTA panels. I always verify cellular signal strength at the installation site during the pre-survey because the internal antenna performs well in most environments but can struggle in heavily shielded buildings.
Technical Highlights:
- Dual-path communication: LTE cellular plus internet provides redundant signal paths for maximum reliability
- 256-bit AES encryption: End-to-end encryption meets commercial security standards for alarm transport
Deployment Considerations:
- Confirm AT&T LTE coverage at the installation site before specifying this model versus the Verizon LTE-IV variant
- The communicator requires its own 16.5 V AC 40 VA transformer separate from the panel transformer
For sites where AT&T coverage is marginal, specify the Verizon LTE-IV instead. Always install the backup battery and test failover between cellular and internet paths after commissioning.
