Overview
Honeywell DT8050 DUAL TEC Long-Range Motion Detector
Overview
The Honeywell DT8050 is a hardwired dual-technology motion detector providing extended 53 ft x 72 ft coverage using combined PIR and 10.525 GHz microwave detection with DualCore digital signal processing. Like the DT8035, it requires both technologies to trigger simultaneously for alarm generation, but covers a significantly larger area suited to open-plan commercial and industrial environments.
Deployment scenarios
The DT8050 targets large open spaces such as warehouse floors, gymnasium-sized retail areas, conference halls, and long corridor runs where the DT8035 coverage footprint is insufficient. The 53 ft x 72 ft pattern can protect substantial floor areas with fewer detectors, reducing material and installation labor costs.
Detection technology
DualCore processing with digital adaptive microwave threshold. Pet immunity is selectable up to 100 lbs. White light immunity is rated to 6,500 Lux. The digital fluorescent light filter suppresses interference from commercial lighting systems. Look-down, cover, and wall tamper protection are standard.
Installation notes
The DT8050 is hardwired at 9-16 VDC. Dimensions are 3.86" H x 2.24" W x 1.71" D (same housing as the DT8035). Mounting height is 6 ft 9 in to 8 ft 9 in. Wall or corner mounting. Operating temperature range is 14 F to 131 F (-10 C to 55 C).

The DT8050 is the long-range counterpart to the DT8035, and I specify it whenever the protected area exceeds 40 ft in depth. The shared housing means I can stock one bracket type for both models and select the coverage range based on the room dimensions.
Technical Highlights:
- Extended coverage: 53 ft x 72 ft pattern covers large open areas with fewer detectors than standard-range models
- Same housing: Identical form factor to the DT8035 allows specification changes without modifying mounting provisions
Deployment Considerations:
- Verify that the mounting height range of 6 ft 9 in to 8 ft 9 in is achievable in industrial spaces with higher ceilings since performance degrades outside this range
- In environments with overhead doors or large HVAC systems, test the microwave pattern walk test thoroughly to identify potential false trigger zones
For very large spaces, overlapping DT8050 coverage zones is preferable to a single detector at maximum range. Redundancy in motion detection is always worth the modest additional hardware cost.
