Honeywell DT8035 DUAL TEC Motion Detector
Overview
The Honeywell DT8035 is a hardwired dual-technology motion detector combining passive infrared (PIR) and 10.525 GHz microwave detection with DualCore digital signal processing. Coverage spans 40 ft x 56 ft with selectable pet immunity up to 100 lbs. Both detection technologies must trigger simultaneously to generate an alarm, significantly reducing false alarm rates compared to single-technology PIR detectors.
Deployment scenarios
The DT8035 is designed for commercial and high-security residential installations where false alarm reduction is a priority. Typical deployments include warehouses, retail spaces, offices with HVAC airflow, and environments with fluorescent lighting that can trigger conventional PIR detectors. The digital fluorescent light filter and 6,500 Lux white light immunity handle challenging lighting conditions.
Detection technology
DualCore signal processing analyzes PIR and microwave data independently before correlation. The digital adaptive microwave threshold automatically adjusts to the environment. Pet immunity up to 100 lbs is selectable. Mounting height is 6 ft 9 in to 8 ft 9 in. Look-down tamper, cover tamper, and wall tamper are included.
Installation notes
The DT8035 is hardwired at 9-16 VDC. Dimensions are 3.86" H x 2.24" W x 1.71" D. Wall or corner mounting is supported. Operating temperature range is 14 F to 131 F (-10 C to 55 C).

The DT8035 is my standard specification for commercial motion detection. The DUAL TEC platform has a strong track record for false alarm reduction, which directly impacts monitoring costs and police response fines for the end user.
Technical Highlights:
- Dual-technology detection: PIR plus microwave correlation eliminates the vast majority of single-sensor false alarms
- 100 lb pet immunity: Handles large dogs without compromising detection of human-sized intruders
Deployment Considerations:
- Use the DT8035 for the 40 ft x 56 ft coverage area and step up to the DT8050 for larger spaces requiring 53 ft x 72 ft coverage
- In rooms with metal racking or shelving, test the microwave pattern after installation since metal surfaces can reflect microwave energy and create dead spots or false triggers
For any installation where false alarms have been a historical problem with PIR-only detectors, replacing them with DT8035 units typically resolves the issue.
