Overview

The CWFE2SCS2 bridges copper Ethernet and single-mode or multimode fiber, running at 10/100 Mbps with automatic speed negotiation on the electrical side. Deploy this where you need to span camera or sensor networks across long distances—multimode fiber reaches 3 km (2 miles) without repeaters, single-mode extends to 30 km (18.6 miles)—or when electromagnetic interference rules out copper cabling. The unit draws 2.7 W from a 5–12 VDC supply, so it integrates into surveillance racks without adding significant power demand. Automatic MDI/MDI-X crossover eliminates cable-type guessing.

Compatibility

The CWFE2SCS2 works with any IP camera, NVR, or network device with standard 10/100 BASE-T Ethernet. The RJ-45 electrical port auto-negotiates to 10 or 100 Mbps full or half duplex; the SC optical port runs fixed 100 Mbps full duplex. Pair it with multimode fiber (50/125 µm or 62.5/125 µm) for short- to medium-range runs under 3 km, or single-mode fiber (9/125 µm) for long-distance backbone links up to 30 km. Transparent to Ethernet protocols—no special configuration needed for surveillance VMS systems, access control, or data traffic. The unit supports switch converter mode (daisy-chaining multiple converters) or pure converter mode (point-to-point).

Installation Notes

Mount stand-alone on a shelf or DIN rail using the optional sold-separately ComNet CWCHASSIS rack. Operating temperature range is 0–50°C; keep it away from direct sunlight or heat sources if deploying in an outdoor cabinet. The 2.1 mm center-positive power connector accepts 5–12 VDC unregulated input. No field adjustments to optical alignment are required—the converter is factory-tuned. Link and activity LEDs on the front panel indicate electrical and optical status; useful for troubleshooting cable breaks or misconnections. Ensure fiber terminations are clean (no dust caps left on connectors) and matched to your chosen fiber type before powering up.
