ACTi PMAX-0805 Gang Box Converter
Overview
The ACTi PMAX-0805 is a gang box converter that consolidates PoE power and network connectivity at wall-mounted or in-wall junction points. It allows you to run a single network cable and PoE power to a standard electrical gang box, then distribute camera connections from that location — cutting the number of separate cable runs you need to drill through walls or route through conduit. This is most valuable in retrofit installations where running individual PoE feeds to every camera location is prohibitively expensive or where you want to centralize cabling at a single wall penetration.
Compatibility
The PMAX-0805 works with ACTi A3x, A4x, E39, and E41x series cameras. It functions as a junction box for cameras that accept PoE 802.3af power — verify your specific camera model supports standard PoE before assuming compatibility. The converter is designed to fit standard US electrical gang boxes, making it a fit-and-forget solution for wall-mounted or recessed installations where you want to hide cabling and consolidate connections behind drywall or trim.
Installation Notes
Mount the PMAX-0805 inside a standard electrical gang box. Incoming network cable (PoE injected or from a PoE switch) connects to the converter's input; camera connections daisy-chain or branch from the converter's outputs. Ensure adequate cable slack inside the box for strain relief — 802.3af PoE has limits, so do not exceed the power budget of your upstream switch or injector when connecting multiple cameras. Verify the gang box has proper ventilation if you are installing in a hot environment; the converter itself generates minimal heat, but trapped air in a sealed box can stress connected devices.
