Description

ATEN KE8950R 4K HDMI KVM Over IP Extender Receiver

Overview

The KE8950R is the receiver unit in ATEN's KE8950 KVM over IP extender pair, designed to place a remote workstation or console endpoint anywhere on your IP network while maintaining sub-5ms latency to the transmitter. Deploy it at the operator desk, control room, or remote rack to access a host system — keyboard, mouse, and 4K display — over standard Ethernet infrastructure without a dedicated video cable run. The KE8950R handles up to 3840×2160 at 60Hz in 4:2:0 mode, or full 4:4:4 color fidelity at 3840×2160 30Hz — the difference matters if your operators are doing color-critical work versus standard monitoring.

Compatibility

The KE8950R pairs exclusively with the KE8950T transmitter unit as part of the ATEN KE8950 extender system. It is compatible with ATEN's KE Management Software for centralized control of multiple KVM over IP sessions across a deployment. USB keyboard and mouse devices connect directly to the receiver for local input. Both RJ-45 (1GbE) and SFP fiber connectivity are available, making it compatible with structured copper cabling and fiber backbone infrastructures — useful in large facilities where copper run distances are a constraint.

Installation Notes

The SFP slot accepts standard SFP modules for fiber uplinks; confirm your specific SFP transceiver is supported before ordering. The unit includes a semi-recessed reset pushbutton to prevent accidental resets during rack operation. Firmware v2.1.201 (released 2025-02-11) is the current production release — verify your KE8950T transmitter runs a matching firmware version, as mismatched firmware between transmitter and receiver is a common source of link instability in KVM over IP deployments. Operating humidity tolerance is 0–95% RH non-condensing, so avoid installations in uncontrolled environments subject to condensation.
