Overview
The KE8950T is the transmitter half of ATEN's KE8950 KVM-over-IP extender pair, designed to place a workstation or server's 4K HDMI video and USB keyboard/mouse signals onto a standard IP network and deliver them — with under 5ms latency — to a remote receiver unit. That sub-5ms figure matters in control-room and broadcast environments where operator response to on-screen events must feel instantaneous. The KE8950T handles resolutions up to 3840×2160 at 60Hz (4:2:0) or 30Hz (4:4:4), giving you flexibility between fluid motion and full-chroma accuracy depending on the application. For integrators deploying ATEN KVM and AV over IP solutions, this transmitter plugs into the source machine and feeds the existing KVM-over-IP infrastructure rather than requiring dedicated extender cabling.
Compatibility
The KE8950T pairs exclusively with the ATEN KE8950R receiver unit to form a complete point-to-point or matrix-capable KVM-over-IP link. It is also compatible with the ATEN KE8952 series (KE8952T/KE8952R), which shares the same firmware package (ke8950-ke8952-v2.1.201.zip, released 2025-02-11). Both units are managed through ATEN's KE Manager or CC2000 Centralized Management software. For multi-seat deployments, the KE8950T can be integrated into a broader KVM switching architecture where multiple transmitters feed a shared receiver matrix. Connectivity options — one RJ-45 gigabit port and one SFP slot — let you run copper to the nearest switch or drop a fiber transceiver directly into the unit for long-distance or electrically noisy runs without an external media converter. Pair with a fiber networking solution when copper runs exceed practical distance or EMI isolation is required.
Installation Notes
The reset function is a semi-recessed pushbutton — intentionally recessed to prevent accidental factory resets in rack-dense environments; you will need a pen or small tool to actuate it. The Remote LED indicator (green) confirms live session status at a glance without logging into management software. Operating humidity tolerance is 0–95% RH non-condensing, which covers most server room and wiring closet conditions but rules out unconditioned outdoor enclosures.
