ATEN VE8950R 4K HDMI Over IP Extender Receiver

Overview

The VE8950R is the receiver unit in ATEN's VE8950 4K HDMI-over-IP extender system, designed to place a display up to 100 meters from the source over a standard Cat 5e or Cat 6 cable run. Where direct HDMI cabling is impractical — control rooms, digital signage in warehouse aisles, boardroom displays fed from a distant AV rack — the VE8950R terminates the network link and outputs 4K resolution (4096×2160 or 3840×2160 at 30Hz, 4:4:4 color) over its HDMI Type A port. The 3-meter local HDMI reach from the receiver to the display covers nearly every rack-to-display or wall-plate-to-screen scenario. Two USB Type A ports support peripheral pass-through — useful for keyboard/mouse control at the remote end. A mini stereo jack provides analog audio output, allowing a separate speaker to be driven at the display location without an additional audio extractor.

Compatibility

The VE8950R is the receiver-side component and pairs exclusively with the ATEN VE8950T transmitter. Both units are part of the ATEN VE8950 series and must be deployed together for point-to-point extension. The system requires Cat 5e or Cat 6 cabling between transmitter and receiver — Cat 5e/6 is the verified medium for the full 100-meter reach. The HDMI output supports displays accepting 4096×2160 or 3840×2160 at up to 30Hz; input resolution compatibility at the transmitter end includes 720×576p and a broad range of standard formats up to 4K. The firmware version at publication is v1.4.136 (released 2025-04-23), applicable to the VE89x0 product family. Installation Notes

Operating humidity is rated 0–80% RH non-condensing — avoid unconditioned spaces prone to condensation. The unit ships with a mounting bracket; dimensions with bracket are 14.02×12.30×3.06 cm (5.52×4.84×1.20 in.), and without bracket 13.60×10.10×2.96 cm (5.35×3.98×1.17 in.). Weight is 0.49 kg (1.08 lb). The DC jack with locking collar requires a dedicated power supply — confirm voltage compatibility with the supplied adapter before installation. Use the 3 push-button ID selectors on the unit to assign unique device IDs when deploying multiple receivers on a shared network segment; duplicate IDs on the same segment will cause display conflicts.
