The VE8900R is the receiver unit in ATEN's VE8900 HDMI-over-IP system, designed to place a full 1080p display endpoint up to 100 meters from the source transmitter using standard Cat 5e or Cat 6 network cable. That 100m reach covers most floor-plate deployments — conference rooms at the far end of a wing, digital signage at a lobby entrance, or AV endpoints in a warehouse — without running dedicated HDMI runs or dealing with active fiber. Two USB Type-A ports support keyboard and mouse passback for KVM control at the remote end, making the VE8900R a practical choice for AV-over-IP installations that also require operator input at the display location. Output connects via a single HDMI Type A female port (black) plus a 3.5mm mini stereo jack for local audio. A DC jack with locking connector handles power at the receiver end. ID number selection uses three front-panel push buttons for point-to-point addressing or matrix configuration — no software required for basic assignment. Firmware is field-upgradeable; the current release is v1.5.145 (2026-02-10).
The VE8900R pairs with the ATEN VE8900T transmitter unit in point-to-point or matrix configurations. In matrix mode, multiple VE8900R receivers can be deployed across a Cat 5e/6 IP network alongside multiple transmitters, with routing managed via the VE8900 management software. Part of the broader AV over IP extender category, the VE8900 series is documented in the VE89 Implementation Guide (v2021-05-26, 1.06 MB) — consult that guide for matrix topology limits, VLAN configuration, and multicast requirements before designing a multi-zone deployment. The 2L-7D03H cable accessory supports short 3m direct connections where a patch run is needed at the receiver end.
Operating humidity range is 0–80% RH non-condensing — standard conditioned interior environments are fine, but this unit is not rated for uncontrolled outdoor or high-humidity spaces. Physical footprint is 13.60 × 10.10 × 2.96 cm (5.35 × 3.98 × 1.17 in.) without bracket, 14.02 × 12.30 × 3.06 cm (5.52 × 4.84 × 1.20 in.) with bracket; weight is 0.49 kg (1.08 lb). The locking DC jack prevents accidental power disconnection in installations where the unit is mounted behind a display or in a ceiling enclosure — confirm the power adapter is seated and locked before closing out the install. Point-to-point ID assignment via the three push buttons requires no network configuration; for matrix deployments, review the multicast and IGMP snooping requirements in the implementation guide before commissioning the switch infrastructure.
