Description

Comnet CNFE2004S1B 2TX to 1FX Media Converter

Overview

The CNFE2004S1B is a two-channel Ethernet-to-optical media converter that accepts two 10/100 Mbps electrical ports and combines them into a single 100 Mbps optical output over single-mode fiber. This is the correct choice when you need to extend IP camera or network runs beyond standard copper PoE limits — single-mode fiber carries signal cleanly to 20 km (12 mi), eliminating the distance wall you hit with Cat5/Cat6. The unit supports optional 30W or 60W PoE+ on both electrical ports, so you can feed powered cameras or edge devices at the remote end without a separate power supply at the fiber termination point.

Compatibility

The CNFE2004S1B works with any IP camera, access control reader, or networked device that outputs 10/100 BASE-T Ethernet. No vendor lock-in — pair it with Axis, Hikvision, Hanwha, Uniview, or any standard ONVIF-compliant system. The optical output (100 BASE-FX, SC single-mode connector) connects directly to fiber infrastructure or to a matching media converter at the head-end. If your NVR or PoE switch sits 15+ km away from the camera location, this converter bridges that gap without signal regeneration equipment in the middle.

Installation Notes

Operating temperature range of −40°C to +75°C and humidity tolerance to 95% non-condensing means it survives outdoor equipment cabinets, utility enclosures, and uncontrolled environments. Power consumption is 3W without PoE load — minimal draw on backup batteries. The auto-negotiation on electrical ports handles 10 or 100 Mbps automatically; no manual speed configuration needed. Comnet's exclusive Demux feature allows port isolation across a single fiber, and Link Fault Pass-Through detects copper-side failures and triggers optical port state changes to alert the head-end — useful for redundancy monitoring. NEMA TS-1/TS-2 compliance ensures traffic signal and highway deployment eligibility if applicable.
