Overview

The Viking Electronics E-10-IP-EWP is the Enhanced Weather Protection variant of the E-10-IP VoIP entry phone line — engineered for installs where the standard non-condensing humidity rating simply won't hold up. The EWP designation means foam rubber gaskets, sealed boots, gel-filled butt connectors, and urethane or thermally potted components throughout, pushing the humidity tolerance from 95% non-condensing all the way to 100%. If you're mounting in a car wash bay, loading dock with pressure washing, coastal entry, or any environment where condensation or direct moisture intrusion is a real risk, this is the correct SKU — the non-EWP E-10-IP is not. The unit ships with a plastic rough-in box (4″ × 4″ × 2.12″) for flush mounting into standard stud-bay construction; surface mounting requires the optional VE-5x5 adapter. Draws under 4W on PoE Class 1 (IEEE 802.3af), so it won't strain a standard PoE switch port budget.

Compatibility

The E-10-IP-EWP integrates with any SIP 2.0 (RFC 3261) compliant phone system or IP PBX — including Cisco, Grandstream, 3CX, FreePBX, and similar platforms. Audio codec support covers G.711u, G.711a, and G.722 (wideband), so HD-voice quality is available on systems that negotiate G.722. Network connection is via a single RJ45 10/100BASE-T port. The onboard relay (2A @ 30VDC / 1A @ 125VAC, 250VAC maximum) can drive an electric door strike or gate controller directly. For surface-mount deployments, pair with the Viking Electronics VE-5x5 surface box; flush-mount installations use the included rough-in box. Compatible with standard 802.3af PoE switches and injectors — no proprietary power hardware required.

Installation Notes

Operating temperature range is -40°F to 140°F (-40°C to 60°C), making this unit suitable for unheated exterior enclosures in northern climates. Gel-filled butt connectors (3 included) handle field splices without additional weatherproofing compound. The aluminum faceplate is 5″ × 5″ with a black textured powder-coat finish — fits standard 4″ square rough-in boxes with the included plastic box, or installs over existing conduit with the optional VE-5x5. Keep wiring runs within the 100m 100BASE-TX limit; no mid-span repeater support is documented. FCC Part 15, Canada ICES-3 Class A, and CE compliance covers US, Canadian, and EU deployments without additional regulatory work.
