Description

ATEN VE170RQ VGA over Cat5e/6 Receiver with Deskew

Overview

The ATEN VE170RQ is the receiver unit for the VE170 VGA-over-Cat5e/6 extension system, designed to place displays at distances that standard VGA cables cannot reach. In deployments where monitors, projectors, or signage displays must be located away from the source equipment — security operations centers, digital signage installations, presentation rooms, or remote workstation setups — the VE170RQ terminates the Cat5e/6 run and reconstructs the VGA signal at the display end. Its built-in deskew compensation corrects the color-channel timing shifts that accumulate over longer cable runs, which is the primary cause of blurry or color-fringed images at distance. The VE170RQ pairs with the VE170L transmitter unit; this listing covers the receiver only.

Compatibility

The VE170RQ is the receiver half of the ATEN VE170 VGA Cat5e/6 extender pair and requires the companion ATEN VE170L transmitter at the source end. It is not compatible with HDMI, DisplayPort, or DVI extender systems. The system supports resolutions up to 1920x1200 at 150m and 1280x1024 at 300m over a single Cat5e or Cat6 cable run — meaning a full HD source remains viable for medium-distance runs, while XGA remains usable at maximum extension distance. The 3.5mm mini stereo jack output (green) passes audio from the transmitter end, so the receiver can feed a local powered speaker or display with an audio input without a separate audio cable run. Power is supplied locally to the receiver via the DC jack; verify the correct ATEN power adapter is available at the display end before installation.

Installation Notes

Maximum cable distance is 300m at 1280x1024 and 150m at 1920x1200 — route cable accordingly before committing to termination points. The receiver operates within 0–80% relative humidity non-condensing; avoid installation in unconditioned spaces subject to condensation. The rack-mount form factor suits 1U rack shelves or structured cabling enclosures at the display end. Carton quantity is 5 units, relevant when ordering for multi-display video extender deployments.
