The aluminum faceplate with black textured powder paint takes physical abuse better than plastic alternatives, and the integrated call progress LED gives visitors confirmation the system registered their call. The W1000 interfaces directly with an unused analog telephone line, making it a straightforward fit for facilities that still run POTS or analog PBX extensions without needing a separate gateway device.

Operating range spans -15°F to 130°F, which covers most North American exterior deployments through freeze-thaw cycles and summer heat loading. The EWP (Enhanced Weather Protection) variant extends humidity tolerance to 100% condensing — use that variant in coastal, high-humidity, or direct-weather-exposure installs where the standard 5–95% non-condensing rating falls short.

Compatibility

The W1000 is designed to interface with analog telephone systems — any standard POTS line or analog port on a PBX/KSU. It shares its power and dimensional platform with the Viking Electronics W-3000 doorbox family. The 20 Hz ring generator and 3.0 REN ringer output are compatible with standard analog line equipment. The 24V talk battery is drawn from the phone line — no separate talk power supply required. For sites needing a surface-mount enclosure instead of flush installation, the optional VE-5x5 surface-mount box accommodates the W1000 faceplate. The included rough-in box supports flush mounting directly in a standard wall opening. Selectable ring counts (2, 3, 10, or 30 rings) allow the unit to match the ring behavior of the host phone system without reprogramming the PBX.

Installation Notes

Flush mount using the included rough-in box; surface mount requires the separately ordered VE-5x5 enclosure. Wiring terminates to a 4-position terminal block on the standard model — straightforward for a single-gang rough-in. The EWP version substitutes 4 gel-filled butt connectors to seal the terminations against moisture ingress; use the EWP variant any time conduit sealing or direct weather exposure is a factor. Maximum loop length is 1.9 km, so the W1000 can serve remote entry points without a line booster in most campus or facility configurations. Keep the power run under 45.7 m.
