Overview

The W1000-EWP is a flush-mount or surface-mount handsfree doorbox engineered for outdoor installations where standard weatherproofing falls short — think covered entryways that still collect condensation, loading dock doors exposed to wash-down splatter, or exterior vestibule intercom points in high-humidity climates. The key differentiator over the standard W-1000 is the EWP (Enhanced Weather Protection) treatment: internally-sealed push button switches and gel-filled butt connectors instead of a standard terminal block, letting the unit handle up to 100% condensing humidity versus the 95% non-condensing ceiling on the base model. That distinction matters in coastal, industrial, or any installation where the unit will see prolonged moisture exposure rather than incidental rain. The aluminum faceplate is powder-painted black and rated vandal resistant, holding up to physical abuse at entry points where plastic housings would not. Operating temperature range of -26°C to 54°C (-15°F to 129°F) covers most North American outdoor deployments without supplemental enclosure heating.

Compatibility

The W1000-EWP is a Viking Electronics W-1000 series doorbox and integrates directly with standard telephone systems that deliver 24V talk battery and support a ring generator at 20 Hz with up to 3.0 REN load. It works with Viking's own telephone entry and door control systems as well as compatible analog POTS-based entry systems. Flush mounting uses the included rough-in box; surface mounting requires the optional VE-5x5 surface mount enclosure (sold separately). For installations requiring daisy-chained or long cable runs, the unit supports a maximum loop length of 1.9 km — sufficient for large campus or warehouse perimeter deployments. Maximum power run is 45.7 m from the power supply location. Power is supplied via a 120V AC / 13.8V AC 1.25A UL-listed adapter.
