Description

ATEN VE883AK2 True 4K HDMI Singlemode Fiber Extender

Overview

The VE883AK2 is the singlemode (SM) LC duplex SFP+ transceiver module for the ATEN VE883A True 4K HDMI Optical Extender system, enabling transmission distances up to 10KM (6.2 miles) over singlemode fiber. This module replaces or pairs with the base VE883A transmitter/receiver units, solving the core problem of running 4K HDMI across a building campus, between structures, or over long-haul installed fiber runs where multimode fiber's ~300m ceiling falls short. The VE883AK2 supports the full 4K resolution stack — including 3840x2160p and 4096x2160p at 24/25/30/50/60 Hz — meaning no downgrade to 1080p at distance, which matters for digital signage walls, control room displays, and any deployment where a 4K source feed must remain 4K at the endpoint. A single integrated 1x GbE (RJ-45 Female) Ethernet channel rides alongside the video, so you don't need a separate network cable run to the remote display location.

Compatibility

The VE883AK2 is designed exclusively for the ATEN VE883A HDMI Optical Extender platform. It functions as the SFP+ transceiver kit for the VE883AT transmitter unit — it does not operate as a standalone device. The companion multimode module is the VE883AK1 (OM3, LC Duplex), which covers runs up to approximately 300m over multimode fiber; choose VE883AK2 when your installed fiber is singlemode or when span distance exceeds multimode range. Compatible input resolutions span from 480p through full fiber AV extender 4K, including 1920x1080 at up to 240 Hz and all standard PC resolutions (640x480 through 1920x1080 at standard refresh rates). Both HDMI standard and high frame rate modes are supported.

Installation Notes

The module connects via LC duplex fiber connector — confirm your fiber patch panel and remote endpoint both terminate in LC duplex before ordering. Singlemode fiber infrastructure is required; this module will not function on OM3 multimode runs (use VE883AK1 for that). The VE883A base unit accepts power via a DC jack with locking connector — verify your VE883AT unit is powered independently; this module does not supply power on its own. Operating humidity tolerance is 0–80% RH non-condensing, suitable for standard indoor telecom/data closet environments. Maximum cable run between the SFP+ module and the VE883AT host is 5m — plan rack placement and patching accordingly before running conduit.
