Description

ATEN CE690 DVI Optical KVM Extender (Receiver Unit)

Overview

The ATEN CE690 is the receiver unit of ATEN's DVI optical KVM extension system, purpose-built to eliminate the distance ceiling that copper-based KVM runs impose on data center and broadcast control environments. Using a single LC fiber link running at 3.125Gbps, the CE690 delivers uncompressed DVI video at up to 1920×1200 @ 60Hz (24-bit color) to a remote console — the kind of full-fidelity output that matters when operators need to distinguish detail on high-density server dashboards or graphics workstations. A front-panel pushbutton enables remote PC wake-up, so the operator console doesn't need physical proximity to the host machine. The unit ships with firmware v3.1.309 (released 2025-10-15), and a user manual (ce680-690-user-manual-w.pdf) is available covering both the CE680 and CE690 in the same extension pair family.

Compatibility

The CE690 (receiver) is designed to pair with the ATEN CE680 (transmitter) as a matched optical KVM extension set — the CE680/CE690 pair forms the complete KVM extender system. The SFP port accepts standard LC-interface SFP transceivers, giving you flexibility to match fiber type (single-mode or multi-mode) and distance to your facility's existing fiber plant. Maximum display resolution is 1920×1200 @ 60Hz, so any DVI source operating at or below WUXGA is supported. For KVM switches and matrix systems requiring optical extension in rack-mount deployments, the CE690 fits standard rack form factor — note that ATEN expresses rack-unit dimensions in L×W×H order, not the conventional W×D×H.

Installation Notes

The bi-directional SFP port (LC connector) handles the full fiber link — ensure your SFP transceiver is compatible with 3.125Gbps line rate before deployment. Operating humidity is rated 0–80% RH non-condensing, making it suitable for conditioned data center or server room environments but not uncontrolled industrial spaces with condensation risk. Firmware upgrades are field-applicable; the current release (v3.1.309) is available as ce680-ce690-v3.1.309.zip. Reference the KVM accessories catalog for compatible SFP modules and fiber patch panels if needed for your rack build-out.
