The VC081A is a compact HDMI EDID emulator that eliminates the blank-screen and no-signal handshake failures that occur when HDMI sources lose visibility of their downstream display. In AV-over-IP distribution, matrix switching, and long-haul HDMI extension deployments, sources frequently drop signal when the display is powered off or disconnected — the VC081A holds a valid EDID on the source port so the source device always sees an active, recognized display. It supports two EDID modes: Default (1080p@60Hz for broad source compatibility) and Learning, which captures the downstream display's native EDID including resolutions up to 3840x2160@60Hz 4:4:4 and 4096x2160@60Hz 4:4:4 — meaning HDR and high-refresh 4K sources pass through without resolution downgrade or color-space stripping. A blue LED confirms when EDID learning is active. The VC081A is bus-powered at 5V DC from the connected source, so no external power supply or cable management is required.
Works with any HDMI 2.0-capable source device — including desktop PCs, laptops, media players, video encoders, and matrix switcher outputs — that supports EDID negotiation over the HDMI DDC line. The Learning mode is particularly useful upstream of ATEN matrix switches, KVM extenders, and HDMI splitters where the source port does not directly face a physical display. Compatible with any downstream display or capture device that presents a standard EDID over HDMI; use the Learning button to clone that EDID once, then disconnect the display without signal loss. Also applicable upstream of HDMI distribution amplifiers and video wall controllers where the source must maintain a stable 4K output regardless of display state.
Insert the VC081A between the HDMI source output and the downstream HDMI cable or device. Bus power draws from the source's HDMI port at 5V DC — no additional wiring needed. To use Learning mode: connect the target display downstream, press the Learn button, and wait for the blue LED to confirm EDID capture. Humidity tolerance is 0–80% RH non-condensing; do not install in environments with condensation risk. Impedance is rated at 100 Ω. Default mode (1080p@60Hz) activates immediately on connection with no configuration required — useful for rapid deployment when the downstream display spec is unknown.
