Overview
The ATEN CL5708M is an 8-port rack-mount LCD KVM console drawer integrating a 17-inch TFT active matrix display, keyboard, and touchpad into a 1U chassis — designed for data centers, server rooms, and security operations centers where rack space is measured in rack units, not inches. It eliminates the need for a dedicated KVM monitor stack while giving direct port access to up to 8 servers or network devices from a single pull-out console. The CL5708M accepts video input up to 1920×1200 at 60 Hz, so even servers outputting high-resolution framebuffer content render cleanly at the console. The native 1280×1024 panel at 75 Hz covers the overwhelming majority of server BIOS and OS sessions without scaling artifacts.
Compatibility
The CL5708M is compatible with systems using PS/2 or USB keyboard and mouse interfaces — both connection types are supported simultaneously, so mixed server generations in the same rack don't require adapters. The integrated USB Type-A female port supports USB peripheral pass-through. Port selection is available via on-screen display (OSD), hotkey sequences, or front-panel pushbutton — whichever fits the operator's workflow. Daisy-chaining compatible ATEN CL-series and compatible KVM switches extends the installation to a maximum of 256 ports across the chain, making this drawer suitable as the primary console in large multi-rack deployments without adding a separate KVM extender. The unit runs on 100–240V AC, 50/60 Hz at 1A maximum draw, covering universal mains worldwide. Firmware is field-upgradeable; the current release is v2.1.202 (2026-05-29).
Installation Notes
Rack installation follows standard 1U rail mounting; ATEN notes that for rack-mount products, physical dimensions are expressed in L×W×H format rather than the conventional W×D×H — verify orientation against your rack's available depth before ordering. Operating humidity tolerance is 0–85% RH non-condensing. The LCD panel brightness is 250 cd/m², which is adequate for most controlled server room environments but may be insufficient in brightly lit open floor deployments — position accordingly or plan for ambient light control. Scan interval for auto-port cycling is configurable from 1 to 255 seconds via OSD.
