The FDX60S2M is a bidirectional, universal data transceiver that converts RS232, RS422, and 2- or 4-wire RS485 signals to single-fiber optics. This device is built for surveillance installations where serial control signals (PTZ, iris, focus, alarm triggers) must traverse long distances without noise degradation or ground-loop interference that plagues copper runs.
Serial data over fiber solves two problems: distance and isolation. The FDX60S2M handles asynchronous data up to 250 kbps in simplex or full-duplex modes—sufficient for almost all analog-era PTZ controllers, access-control readers, and intercom systems. The compact form factor (4.1 × 3.7 × 1.1 inches) fits inside camera housings, junction boxes, or standard DIN-rail enclosures. Operating range spans 9–30 VDC, so it integrates with 12 V, 24 V, and regulated industrial supplies without additional conditioning. Multimode fiber reaches 4 km at 16 dB optical budget; singlemode extends to 69 km at 23 dB—choose based on your cable runs and existing fiber plant.
The FDX60S2M is protocol-agnostic—it carries any serial standard the physical layer supports: RS232 (point-to-point), RS422 (four-wire full-duplex), or RS485 (2-wire half-duplex or 4-wire full-duplex). This covers PTZ dome controllers from Axis, Pelco, Hikvision, and Honeywell; access-control keypads and readers; analog intercom stations; and legacy alarm system serial ports. Terminal-block connectors accept 18–24 AWG twisted-pair or shielded twisted-pair (STP); fiber interface is ST connector (multimode or singlemode—specify at purchase).
Both ends require power (9–30 VDC, 2 W per unit). Place one transceiver at the camera/controller end and one at the recording or control center. Bit error rate stays below 10⁻⁹ at maximum optical loss, meaning no data corruption over the rated distance. Operating temperature is –40 to +75 °C; verify fiber cable jacket rating matches your environment (buried, aerial, conduit, etc.). MTBF exceeds 100,000 hours—longer than the fiber plant itself in most deployments.
