Description

Comnet FDC10RS1A Bi-Directional Contact Closure Transceiver

Overview

The FDC10RS1A is a bi-directional contact closure transceiver designed to extend relay and alarm signals over single-mode fiber optic cable — solving the distance and isolation problem when your control signals need to travel beyond copper wiring limits. Deploy it to transmit switch closures, door sensors, alarm triggers, or relay commands across campus infrastructure, between buildings, or in electrically noisy industrial environments where ground loops and EMI make copper runs unreliable. This model supports one fiber strand (1310/1550 nm wavelength-division multiplexing capable) and delivers a 30 VDC, 0.5 A relay output, making it compatible with standard door control, gate operators, and industrial relay logic circuits.

Compatibility

The FDC10RS1A pairs with any access control panel, alarm system, or gate controller that outputs a dry contact closure or expects a dry contact input. Typical deployments include Honeywell VISTA panels, Lenel OnGuard systems, Avigilon Control Center, and Milestone XProtect when integrated through intermediate relay modules. Verify your control system supports external relay inputs rated for 30 VDC; most commercial access control and gate systems do. The ST fiber connector accepts standard single-mode patch cables (9/125 µm) — order a mated pair of transceivers (one at each end) to establish a bidirectional link.

Installation Notes

Power each unit with 8–15 VDC at 2 W maximum consumption — the recommended Comnet PS-A12060 power supply handles this cleanly. Operating temperature range of −40 °C to +75 °C suits outdoor and unheated buildings; humidity tolerance to 95% (non-condensing) covers most installations except direct spray environments. The 0.5 msec response time is fast enough for door strikes and gate operators — no perceptible lag for real-time control. Fiber runs to 69 km (23 dB optical power budget) mean you can bridge distant campuses without repeaters. Mount the compact unit (6.1 × 5.3 × 1.1 inches) in a panel or small DIN-rail enclosure near your fiber patch panel. Verify ST connector cleanliness before mating — dirt on the ferrule causes signal loss and transceiver faults.
