Overview

The Comnet CNFE1004MAC1A-M is a compact 100 Mbps Ethernet-to-fiber media converter designed to extend network reach across single-mode or multimode fiber runs in surveillance and commercial installations. It accepts 10/100 Mbps RJ45 input, auto-negotiates to 100 Mbps full duplex, and converts the signal to 100 Mbps optical output via a single SC connector. The multimode version (this unit) spans up to 3 km (2 miles)—sufficient for most campus backbone runs between buildings or between a central NVR site and remote camera clusters. Power input accepts AC (22–27 VAC) or DC (8–24 VDC), and the included supply eliminates the need for site-specific power sourcing. All models are plug-and-play with no in-field optical adjustments required.

Compatibility

The CNFE1004MAC1A-M integrates with any standard IP surveillance system running 10/100 Mbps Ethernet—including NVRs, PoE switches, managed switches, and network-based cameras. Use this converter when fiber backbone infrastructure is already in place or when electrical distance limitations require optical extension. It pairs with standard multimode fiber (MM) cabling and SC patch cords. The small form factor fits wall-mounted or compact enclosure installations. Installation Notes

Operating temperature range of −40°C to +75°C supports outdoor and unheated/uncooled enclosures. Power consumption is minimal at 3W, so a low-capacity auxiliary supply (5–12W DC) will suffice. The unit includes voltage transient protection on all power and signal lines—important in lightning-prone or high-EMI environments common in perimeter surveillance. Verify optical fiber type before installation: this model is certified for multimode fiber only; do not attempt single-mode fiber with this unit (single-mode variants are available separately). LED status indicators confirm link and activity—confirm both lights are steady green before committing the run to production.
