Overview

The CNFE1004S1A is a 10/100 Mbps Ethernet-to-optical media converter that bridges copper cabling to long-distance fiber runs — the right tool when you need to extend camera or access-control circuits beyond standard Ethernet reach without installing new conduit or reterminating endpoints. This single-fiber SC model converts 10/100 Mbps electrical traffic to 100 Mbps optical output, supporting distances up to 20 km on singlemode fiber or 3 km on multimode. Auto-negotiating on the electrical side and transparent to data encoding, it plugs into surveillance networks, intercom systems, and IP security infrastructure where fiber isolation and distance solve noise or ground-loop problems.

Compatibility

This converter works with any 10/100 BASE-T Ethernet device — IP cameras, NVRs, managed switches, access-control panels, and codec gateways — as long as the device provides or accepts an RJ45 connection. The optical side uses industry-standard SC connectors with either multimode (62.5/125 µm or 50/125 µm) or singlemode (9/125 µm) patch cords. No vendor lock-in; the unit is IEEE 802.3 compliant and data-encoding transparent, so it carries any protocol (Ethernet, IP, legacy serial over Ethernet) without modification. Pair it with a matching CNFE1004S1A or equivalent second converter at the far end of the fiber span to create a transparent link.

Automatic MDI/MDI-X crossover eliminates straight vs. crossover cable concern on the RJ45 side. The unit is passive-optical (no optical adjustments), so fiber termination quality is critical — ensure SC connectors are clean and seated firmly. Voltage transient protection on all power and signal lines guards against surges; the unit is NEMA TS-1/TS-2 tested for mechanical shock and vibration. Mount wall-mounted or in standard equipment racks using the included ComFit housing.
