Description

Comnet CNFE1004MAC1B-M 100Mbps Electrical-to-Optical Media Converter

Overview

The CNFE1004MAC1B-M is a compact single-fiber media converter that bridges 10/100 Mbps copper Ethernet to 100 Mbps multimode optical—a critical component for extending surveillance camera runs across distances where copper cable alone would require signal boosters or multiple equipment cabinets. This unit accepts RJ-45 input and converts to a single SC optical connector, supporting up to 3 km (2 mi) of multimode fiber. Auto-negotiation on the electrical side means it adapts to whatever 10 or 100 Mbps speed your network serves, without manual reconfiguration.

Compatibility

The CNFE1004MAC1B-M works with any surveillance system or access-control network that runs 10/100 Mbps Ethernet over copper. Install it at either end of a fiber run to convert between metallic and optical domains. The RJ-45 port pairs with standard POE injectors, network switches, or edge devices; the SC connector accepts standard multimode patch cord. No special VMS or camera firmware is required—the conversion is transparent to the data stream. Typical deployments use one converter at the camera/switch side and a second at the receiver (NVR or switch port) to create a fiber backbone across campuses, warehouses, or outdoor installations where electromagnetic interference or distance argues against copper.

Installation Notes

Mount the small form-factor housing (3.3 × 2.5 × 1.1 in) on a wall, in a cabinet, or via DIN rail bracket. Requires 8–24 VDC input (AC/DC power supply included). Operating temperature range of −40°C to +75°C means it tolerates outdoor enclosures and unheated sheds; humidity up to 95% non-condensing ensures condensation-free fiber connections. Draw 3W, so no load on power budgets. LED indicators confirm link status and activity—useful for quick field troubleshooting. No in-field optical adjustments; optical alignment is factory-set.
