Description

Comnet CNGE2MC-M Gigabit Ethernet-to-Fiber Media Converter

Overview

The CNGE2MC-M is a single-channel, auto-negotiating Gigabit media converter that accepts 10/100/1000 Mbps electrical input and converts it to 1000 BASE-FX optical output. In a compact 3.3 x 2.5 x 1.1 inch footprint, it solves the core fiber-run problem: extending surveillance networks beyond copper limits without signal degradation or EMI intrusion. The small form factor fits tight cabinet spaces, control-room shelves, or wall-mounted installations where standard-size converters won't work.

Built for surveillance-grade reliability, the CNGE2MC-M operates across -40°C to +75°C with 8–15 VDC input (6W draw), making it suitable for outdoor cabinets, rooftop enclosures, and unheated shelters. Plug-and-play design requires no field configuration—LED indicators show link and operational status at a glance.

Compatibility

Works with any standard IP camera, NVR, switch, or surveillance device that outputs 10/100/1000 BASE-TX Ethernet. Optical connectivity depends on customer-installed ComNet SFP modules (ordered separately), supporting multimode or singlemode fiber, duplex or simplex connectors, and distances up to 120 km depending on SFP type. Integrate the CNGE2MC-M into fiber backbone runs between camera clusters and recording systems, or bridge copper camera drops to optical trunk feeds without VMS compatibility concerns—it operates transparently at Layer 1, forwarding all protocols identically.

Installation Notes

Supply 8–15 VDC via the included connector; a separate regulated power supply is not required. Mount via the included hardware on walls, shelves, or rack rails. Full-duplex transmission supports auto-negotiation and automatic MDI/MDI-X crossover, eliminating manual crossover cable fussing. Confirm your SFP module matches your fiber plant (multimode vs. singlemode, connector type, distance). Operating humidity tolerance of 0–95% non-condensing allows deployment in temperature-fluctuating outdoor cabinets without sealed enclosure penalties.
