Description

Comnet CNGE2MCPOEM Media Converter with Power over Ethernet

Overview

The CNGE2MCPOEM is a Gigabit media converter designed to bridge copper Ethernet and single-mode or multimode fiber optics while simultaneously delivering IEEE 802.3at PoE power over the copper port. Deploy this where you need to extend a surveillance camera network beyond standard copper cable limits—fiber runs handle 2+ km distances without signal loss—while powering edge devices (IP cameras, access controllers) directly from the converter. The model includes a 48VDC power supply rated for 90–264 VAC input, eliminating the need for a separate injector in remote installations.

Compatibility

The CNGE2MCPOEM works with any IP camera, NVR, or network device that accepts standard 10/100/1000 Mbps Ethernet and IEEE 802.3at PoE (up to 30W per port). Common deployments include Axis, Hikvision, Dahua, and Uniview surveillance cameras rated for PoE+ operation. The single SFP fiber port accepts both single-mode and multimode transceivers (sold separately), making it compatible with existing fiber infrastructure and future upgrades. Because it operates at Layer 1/2, no driver or firmware updates are required—plug fiber in one side, powered Ethernet out the other, and the converter handles media translation transparently.

Installation Notes

Operating temperature range is –40°C to +75°C, making this suitable for outdoor fiber termination cabinets, wall-mounted weatherproof enclosures, or utility buildings. Humidity tolerance to 95% non-condensing supports coastal and humid warehouse environments. The compact footprint (4.1 × 3.7 × 1.1 inches) mounts on DIN rail or inside standard electrical boxes. Power consumption maxes at 30W under full load (PoE delivery + conversion overhead), so a single 48VDC/1A supply handles multiple converters in sequence. MTBF exceeds 100,000 hours, typical for industrial-grade Ethernet equipment expecting multi-year duty cycles.
