Description

Comnet CWGE2SFPM2 Gigabit Ethernet Media Converter

Overview

The CWGE2SFPM2 is a commercial-grade 10/100/1000 Mbps Ethernet media converter designed to bridge copper (RJ-45) and fiber networks in surveillance and industrial deployments. It converts electrical signals to optical signals over 2-fiber multimode LC connections, supporting distances up to 550 meters — useful for extending camera runs beyond standard CAT5e/CAT6 limits without expensive shielded bulk fiber or fiber conduit over long spans. Includes a 5–12 VDC power supply, making it a plug-and-play addition to existing PoE infrastructure.

Compatibility

The CWGE2SFPM2 pairs with any standard Gigabit network infrastructure: PoE+ switches (802.3at), NVRs with Gigabit uplinks, and IP cameras drawing up to 95W per port (802.3bt PoE++ capable). Works with multimode fiber already installed in ducts or on-premise runs. LC connectors are standard across most commercial fiber backbone equipment — confirm your existing termination type before ordering. RJ-45 jack accepts standard Gigabit Ethernet cables; no pinout conversion required.

Installation Notes

Mount in a rack, cabinet, or wall-mounted enclosure with at least 2 inches of clearance for thermal dissipation. Operating temperature range is standard industrial (–40°C to 60°C / –40°F to 140°F). Fiber insertion loss and connector quality directly impact usable distance — the 550-meter spec assumes <7.5 dB total loss at 850 nm wavelength (multimode standard). Pre-terminate fiber runs or use field-installable connectors to avoid splicing losses. Verify fiber mode (multimode vs. single-mode) before deployment — single-mode fiber will not work with this converter's 850 nm transceiver.
