Description

Comnet CNFE2MCM Ethernet Media Converter

Overview

The Comnet CNFE2MCM is a single-channel 10/100 Mbps Ethernet-to-optical media converter designed for surveillance and industrial networks where copper cabling distance or EMI isolation demands fiber. It bridges electrical RJ45 to user-selectable SFP optical modules, extending transmission distance up to 80 km depending on SFP choice. The unit is hardened for field deployment: -40°C to +75°C operating range, <5W power draw, and comprehensive transient protection on all power and signal lines. It fits wall, rack, or DIN-rail mounting (via optional DINBKT1 adapter) — standard in surveillance backbone installations where camera runs exceed copper limits or lightning/RF noise is a concern.

Compatibility

The CNFE2MCM accepts any standard SFP optical module — multimode (MM) for short-haul (up to 2 km typical), single-mode (SM) for long-haul (up to 80 km). Electrical side is standard 10/100 BASE-T via RJ45 with Auto-Negotiation and automatic MDI/MDI-X crossover, making it compatible with any Ethernet camera, NVR, or network device without manual configuration. IEEE 802.3 compliant. Hot-swappable design allows field replacement without powering down adjacent units in a rack stack. Pairs with Comnet DC power supplies (CNFE2MCAC/M variant uses 90–264 VAC) or standard industrial UPS. Works upstream or downstream of PoE switches — the converter itself is transparent to power negotiation protocols.

Installation Notes

Requires 4W DC or AC input; confirm power supply rating before field install. SFP modules sold separately — verify multimode vs. single-mode based on distance and fiber type already in place. Operating humidity to 95% RH (condensation-safe per NEMA TS-1/TS-2). LED indicators show link and activity status. No in-field optical alignment needed — SFP modules slot in like standard transceivers. MTBF >100,000 hours under rated conditions.
