Description

Comnet FDX60S1B RS232/422/485 Fiber Data Transceiver

Overview

The FDX60S1B is an industrial-grade fiber optic transceiver for serial data (RS232, RS422, RS485) over single or multimode fiber. It solves the distance and noise immunity problem when you need to run control signals—PTZ commands, access controller comms, SCADA links, BMS telemetry—across a surveillance network without copper copper runs or repeaters. Fiber is immune to ground loops and EMI; the FDX60S1B handles data rates to 250 kbps over distances from 4 km (multimode) to 69 km (single mode), depending on fiber type and wavelength selected. Recommended for distributed camera systems, multi-building campuses, and environments with heavy RF interference.

Compatibility

Integrates with any serial device (PTZ receivers, door controllers, encoders, industrial sensors, legacy equipment) that communicates via RS232, RS422, or RS485. The FDX60S1B is a transparent fiber bridge—no protocol translation needed. Works with standard multimode patch cable (OM1/OM2/OM3) for distances up to 4 km, or single-mode fiber for extended reach to 69 km. ST optical connectors mate with standard datacenter and CCTV fiber infrastructure. Pairs with any 9–30 VDC power supply (Comnet recommends the PS-A12060 for redundant deployments).

Installation Notes

Operating range: −40 to +75 °C; storage to +85 °C. Humidity tolerance: 0–95% non-condensing. Unit draws 2 W, well within a standard 12 VDC or 24 VDC rail budget. Mount in a 19-inch rack using a single slot (available in Mini 4.1 × 3.7 × 1.1 in or Comfit 6.1 × 5.3 × 1.1 in form factor). MTBF >100,000 hours means 11+ years at full load before expected failure. Fiber must be undamaged and properly terminated at both ends; ST connectors are latching—pull straight to disconnect. Bit error rate <10⁻⁹ ensures data integrity over long fiber runs; no retry penalties for telemetry or control streams.
