Overview
The Comnet FDX60M1A is an industrial-grade RS232/422/485 to fiber optic transceiver that bridges serial data over single-mode or multimode fiber. This module solves the core problem of long-distance, noise-immune data transmission in surveillance and access control installations where copper serial runs would introduce EMI noise or exceed practical cable length. The FDX60M1A supports 2-wire and 4-wire RS485, full-duplex or simplex operation, and handles data rates up to 250 kbps—sufficient for camera control, gate access panels, and PLC telemetry across sprawling industrial sites.
Compatibility
The FDX60M1A pairs with any Comnet fiber shelf or standalone configuration that accepts a 1-slot industrial module. On the serial side, it works with any RS232, RS422, or RS485 device: camera control systems (PTZ encoders, matrix switchers), access control panels (card readers, strike controllers), NVR serial ports, and industrial automation equipment. The module supports both asynchronous simplex and full-duplex modes, making it compatible with bi-directional Comnet fiber links in the same family (e.g., paired FDX units on opposite ends of a multimode or single-mode run).
Installation Notes
The FDX60M1A requires 9–30 VDC input (2 W typical draw), making it compatible with standard industrial power supplies—Comnet recommends the PS-A12060. Operating temperature range of −40 to +75°C handles outdoor cabinets and equipment rooms without derating. For multimode fiber runs up to 4 km, the module delivers a 16 dB optical power budget; for single-mode runs up to 69 km, it provides 23 dB. ST connectors are standard; ensure fiber patch cables and bulkhead connectors match your chosen fiber type. The module occupies one 1U slot in a Comnet rack frame. Bit error rate below 10−9 ensures reliable command and feedback transmission over long distances where copper would require shielding and grounding discipline.
