Description

QNAP QSW-M3212R-8S4T-US Half-Width 12-Port 10GbE L2 Managed Switch

Overview

The QSW-M3212R-8S4T-US is a half-width rackmount web-managed Layer 2 switch that delivers full 10GbE throughput across all 12 ports — eight 10GbE SFP+ ports for fiber uplinks or server connections and four 10GbE RJ45 copper ports for shorter direct-attach runs. Its half-width chassis means two units can occupy a single 1U rack slot, which matters in dense NAS or surveillance rack builds where switch real estate is scarce. With 240Gbps of switching capacity, it handles non-blocking 10GbE traffic across all ports simultaneously — no oversubscription headaches in high-throughput NAS or IP camera aggregation tiers. Power draw is a conservative 32.825W, keeping PDU budgets manageable in multi-device racks.

Compatibility

Designed to pair directly with QNAP NAS and storage appliances requiring 10GbE connectivity — including QNAP TVS-h series, TS-x73A, TS-x83XU, and other NAS models equipped with 10GbE SFP+ or 10GbE RJ45 expansion. The four RJ45 ports accept standard Cat6/Cat6A cabling for workstation-to-switch links, while the eight SFP+ slots support both 10GbE SFP+ transceivers and 10G DAC/AOC cables for inter-switch or NAS uplinks. Also compatible with any 10GbE network switch infrastructure using standard SFP+ or RJ45 10GbE interfaces, making it a practical aggregation layer for VMware, Proxmox, or HyperV storage networks as well as high-density IP camera backhaul tiers feeding into an NVR or VMS server. Web-managed operation via QNAP's QSS (QNAP Smart Switch) interface covers VLAN segmentation, port mirroring, QoS, and link aggregation — the management features most integrators actually configure on a storage-tier switch without needing a full CLI.

Installation Notes

The half-width form factor requires a compatible half-width rackmount bracket or a dual-unit bracket kit to fill a standard 19-inch rack bay — confirm bracket compatibility with your rack before ordering. SFP+ ports accept standard 10GbE SFP+ modules or passive/active DAC cables; verify DAC length and cable type against QNAP's tested compatibility list for reliable link negotiation. The 32.825W power draw is handled internally, so no external PoE injector or separate power brick is needed.
