Overview

The ATEN VE1812 is an HDMI HDBaseT extender designed to push 4K video over standard Cat cable infrastructure — eliminating the need to run dedicated HDMI cable beyond the typical 5–10m limit. The VE1812 solves the fundamental AV distribution problem in conference rooms, digital signage installs, and surveillance display setups: getting uncompressed 4K from a source to a remote display across distances that HDMI alone cannot handle. It ships as the VE1812T transmitter unit, designed to pair with a compatible ATEN HDBaseT receiver. Power over HDBaseT (PoH) means the remote receiver draws power through the Cat cable itself — no separate power outlet required at the display end, which simplifies ceiling and wall-mount installs significantly. Bi-directional IR pass-through lets you control source devices from the display location without running a separate IR extension cable.

Compatibility

The VE1812 is the transmitter (VE1812T) half of an ATEN HDBaseT extender pair. It is compatible with ATEN's VE1812R receiver unit and the broader ATEN VE-series HDBaseT extender line. Cable requirements determine maximum reach: Cat 5e or Cat 6 supports 4K up to 70m and 1080p up to 100m; Cat 6a or ATEN's own 2L-2910 Cat6 cable extends 4K range to 100m. Supported 4K resolutions include 4096×2160 and 3840×2160 at 60Hz (4:2:0) or 30Hz (4:4:4). Operates within 0–80% RH non-condensing environments, making it suitable for standard indoor AV and video distribution applications.

Installation Notes

Maximum transmitter-side HDMI cable length is 3m — keep your source device within 3m of the VE1812T. Firmware upgrades are handled via an onboard slide switch (ON/OFF), so no separate update utility is required for basic field updates. DC locking jack on the power input prevents accidental disconnection in rack or credenza installs. IR connection uses a standard 3.5mm mini stereo jack, compatible with most third-party IR emitter/receiver accessories. Humidity limit is 80% RH non-condensing — avoid installs in unconditioned spaces prone to condensation.
