ATEN VE813A HDMI HDBaseT Extender with USB 2.0
Overview
The ATEN VE813A is an HDBaseT extender that carries 4K HDMI video and a USB 2.0 channel over a single Cat 5e, Cat 6, or Cat 6a cable run — purpose-built for AV installations, digital signage deployments, and conference rooms where the display or interactive device must sit far from the source. The VE813A handles 4K (4096×2160 / 3840×2160) at 60Hz (4:2:0) or 30Hz (4:4:4) up to 70m on Cat 5e/6, and extends that reach to 100m on Cat 6a — roughly 330 feet — without a signal amplifier. The embedded USB 2.0 path (USB Type-B female input, up to 40 Mbps) lets you run a peripheral — touchscreen, keyboard, or USB-connected device — back to the source over the same cable, eliminating a separate USB extender run and the extra cabling cost that comes with it.
Compatibility
The VE813A is designed for use within the ATEN VE8 HDBaseT extender family and is compatible with any HDMI 4K source and display meeting the HDBaseT specification. The USB channel is compatible with USB 2.0 peripherals. It operates as the transmitter unit (VE813AT function); a compatible ATEN HDBaseT receiver is required at the remote end to complete the link. Cat 5e or Cat 6 cable supports the full 4K signal up to 70m; Cat 6a is required to reach the maximum 100m extension distance. For 1080p content, the 100m range is achievable on Cat 5e/6 as well. Review your AV extender cabling infrastructure before ordering — the cable category directly determines maximum operating distance.
Installation Notes
The VE813A ships in a metal housing suitable for rack environments. Note that for rack-mount products in the ATEN lineup, physical dimensions are expressed in LxWxH (length × width × height) format rather than the conventional WxDxH — account for this when planning rack depth. Keep ambient humidity below 80% RH non-condensing. The USB input accepts a Type-B female connector; ensure your source-end USB cable terminates in Type-B. A separate power supply connects via DC jack — verify the power source is present at the transmitter location before finalizing the installation layout.
