ELK Products ELK-M1XIN 16 Zone Input Expander
Overview
The ELK-M1XIN is a 16-zone input expander module that extends the capacity of ELK M1 control panels beyond their built-in zone count. Deploy this when a single M1 panel's native zone capacity is insufficient for the site's sensor requirements — common in retrofits where adding more perimeter sensors, motion detectors, or door/window contacts would exceed the panel's input slots. The M1XIN connects via the M1's expansion bus, adding 16 addressable zones without requiring a second control panel.
Compatibility
The ELK-M1XIN is compatible with ELK M1 control panel series, including M1, M1G, and M1G2 variants. It integrates directly onto the M1 expansion port, allowing mixed sensor types (normally open, normally closed, or dual-state) to be assigned to any of the 16 new zones. Confirm your M1 firmware supports zone expansion modules before ordering; older firmware revisions may require updates to recognize the module.
Installation Notes
The M1XIN mounts in a standard enclosure or wall-mounted next to the M1 control panel. Connection is made via a dedicated expansion cable (typically included with the panel or ordered separately) plugged into the M1's expansion port. Sensor wiring (four-conductor twisted pair recommended for runs over 100 feet) connects to the M1XIN terminal block. Ensure adequate 12VDC supply to the M1 panel — the expander draws power from the panel's bus and does not require separate wiring. Address assignment and zone naming are configured in the M1's keypad or web interface after physical installation.
