Overview

The Comnet CNFE22MC is a two-channel 10/100 Mbps Ethernet-to-optical media converter designed to extend surveillance network reach across fiber optic links. It converts electrical RJ45 connections to user-selectable SFP optical ports, enabling distances up to 80 km depending on SFP choice. Built in the ComNet ComFit housing, the CNFE22MC operates across -40°C to +75°C and draws only 4W at 8–15 VDC, making it suitable for hardened outdoor and remote camera deployments where copper runs are impractical or introduce ground loops.

Compatibility

The CNFE22MC works with any standard 10/100 BASE-T/TX Ethernet device: IP cameras, NVRs, network switches, and edge recorders that output or accept RJ45 connections. SFP transceiver compatibility depends on your chosen fiber type and distance requirements — pair with single-mode SFPs for long-haul (40+ km) or multimode for shorter campus runs. The converter supports auto-negotiation for 10 or 100 Mbps, full duplex or half duplex, and automatic MDI/MDI-X crossover, eliminating manual configuration. Two independent channels allow you to run separate camera feeds or network segments over a single fiber pair.

Installation Notes

Mount the CNFE22MC in a 1U rack slot using the ComFit housing, or wall-mount directly. Optional DIN-rail mounting requires the separate ComNet DINBKT1 adaptor plate. All power and signal lines feature voltage transient protection — critical in outdoor surveillance installations prone to lightning surge coupling. Operating temperature range (-40°C to +75°C storage to -40°C to +85°C) covers industrial and arctic environments. No in-field optical adjustments are required — insert the SFP, confirm LED status indicators, and the converter auto-detects link state. Conformal coating is available as an option for high-humidity or corrosive environments. IEEE 802.3 compliant; MTBF exceeds 100,000 hours.
