Description

Comnet CWFE2COAX Dual Ethernet to COAX Media Converter

Overview

The CWFE2COAX is a two-port unmanaged media converter that extends 10/100 Mbps Ethernet signals 305 meters (1000 feet) over existing coaxial cable infrastructure. This solves the retrofit problem: when you have coax runs already in the walls or conduit but need to carry IP video or network data without rewiring. Each unit converts between 100 BASE-TX Ethernet and BNC coax connectors, so you deploy one at the source (camera, NVR, or switch) and one at the far end to recover the signal. No configuration required — plug in power and the link negotiates automatically.

Compatibility

The CWFE2COAX works with any 10/100 Mbps Ethernet source: IP cameras (legacy or modern), network video recorders, PoE injectors, Ethernet switches, or access control panels. It is not a PoE extender — power must be supplied separately at both ends. The converter handles standard Category 5/5e-equivalent data rates but transmits via coax, making it ideal for analog-era installations where Cat5 pulls are impractical but coax backbone exists. Compatible with any BNC-terminated coax system rated for data (RG-59, RG-6, or RG-11 depending on distance and cable quality).

Installation Notes

The CWFE2COAX requires AC or DC power at both the source and remote converter — there is no power injection over the coax line. Plan dual power supplies or UPS feeds if uptime is critical. The 305-meter distance rating assumes good-quality coax; older or damaged runs may reduce effective range. BNC connectors must be properly terminated — loose or corroded connections degrade signal integrity and throughput. Mount on a wall or DIN rail near the power source and coax termination point. No software management interface exists; this is a passive device with no IP address or telnet access.
