Description

Comnet CWFE1COAX Ethernet to COAX Media Converter

Overview

The Comnet CWFE1COAX is a 100Mbps Ethernet-to-COAX media converter rated for commercial surveillance deployments where existing coaxial cable runs need to carry modern IP camera and PoE device traffic. This converter solves the retrofit problem: instead of pulling new copper or fiber through conduit, you deploy the CWFE1COAX at both ends of legacy coax and recover 100Mbps bandwidth plus 30W PoE passthrough over distances up to 305 meters (1000 feet).

Compatibility

The CWFE1COAX works with any IP surveillance camera or PoE-powered device requiring standard RJ45 Ethernet and IEEE 802.3af power delivery. Common deployment scenarios include Axis, Hikvision, Dahua, and Uniview IP cameras in 5MP–8MP ranges that consume 8–16W. The converter's 30W PoE output supports single cameras or small powered hubs. The BNC COAX connector accommodates standard 75Ω surveillance cable (RG-59, RG-6, or equivalent) already in place in most commercial facilities. Not suitable for 100Base-FX fiber or 1Gbps-class traffic — this is a 100Mbps bridge only.

Installation Notes

Mount the CWFE1COAX in accessible locations (typically junction boxes or equipment racks) at each coax span end. Requires dual power input: 12–24 VDC or 24 VAC supply. Max power draw is 36W per unit, so paired units (transmit + receive) total ~72W. Operating temperature range 0–50°C limits deployment in unventilated hot environments; verify HVAC or thermal management in control rooms. Humidity tolerance to 95% non-condensing supports outdoor electrical cabinets. MTBF >100,000 hours indicates design life suitable for 10+ year facility infrastructure.
