Description

Comnet FVT1031S1 Digitally Encoded Video Transmitter with Data Transceiver

Overview

The FVT1031S1 is a single-channel analog video transmitter paired with an RS232/RS422/RS485 data transceiver, designed to extend surveillance and control signals over a single strand of singlemode optical fiber. This is the transmit side of a point-to-point fiber link — it converts baseband video and serial data into optical signals for long-distance runs where copper coax would degrade signal or introduce ground loops. Deploy this when you need to reach an NVR or video processor 2+ km away without repeaters, or when electrical isolation between buildings is critical for safety.

Compatibility

The FVT1031S1 pairs with a compatible Comnet fiber receiver (such as FVR1031S1 or equivalent models in the FVR/FVT industrial fiber family). It accepts standard composite video (NTSC or PAL, 1 Vp-p) on RCA or BNC input and supports three RS data protocols simultaneously on DB-9 connectors: RS232, RS422, and RS485 — no protocol negotiation needed, all three active in parallel. Verify your receiver model supports identical singlemode ST optics before purchasing; mixing multimode and singlemode fiber will result in high loss and signal failure. Comnet fiber pairs are tested as matched sets at the factory.

Installation Notes

Singlemode fiber requires careful handling during termination — any kinks, poor splicing, or dirty ST connectors will degrade the optical budget significantly. Ensure the receiving end uses an ST-to-ST patch cable rated for singlemode (G.652D or G.657A2). The FVT1031S1 is industrial-grade rated for -40°C to 70°C operation, making it suitable for outdoor fiber enclosures, but keep the electronics themselves in a climate-controlled node or rack. Power requirements and optical launch power specifications are available in the full technical datasheet from Comnet — request that before final installation planning to confirm fiber run distance feasibility.
