Overview

The CWGE2SCM2 is a commercial-grade Gigabit SFP module designed as the fiber transceiver for Comnet's CWGE2 dual-fiber media converter. It runs at 1000 Mbps over multimode fiber at 850 nm wavelength — the wavelength that carries signal 550 meters across standard building and campus installations without regeneration. If you're extending Ethernet beyond copper limits (100m per run), this module plugs into the SFP cage on the converter chassis to terminate the fiber link on one end of the run.

Compatibility

This module is engineered specifically for the CWGE2SCM2 media converter platform. It will not function in other vendors' SFP slots — confirm your media converter is a Comnet CWGE2-series unit before ordering. The module uses LC connectors (the small square push-twist standard for fiber, not SC or ST), so your fiber runs must terminate at LC on both ends. If your installation has SC connectors already in place, you'll need SC-to-LC adapters, or re-terminate the fiber.

Installation Notes

Insert the module into the SFP cage on the converter with the connector facing outward. Push until it seats with a click — forcing it risks damaging the connector pins. The module operates across a standard commercial temperature range suitable for indoor and protected enclosure deployments. MSA compliance ensures optical and electrical interoperability with other compliant transceivers in mixed-vendor environments, though Comnet recommends pairing with genuine Comnet modules for warranty coverage and performance validation.
