Description

Comnet CNFE1004M1A 100Mbps Media Converter

Overview

The CNFE1004M1A is a single-channel Ethernet-to-optical media converter that bridges your copper network to fiber runs—standard deployment when extending surveillance or access control over long distances without running parallel electrical conduit. It accepts 10/100 Mbps on RJ45, outputs 100 Mbps optical on a single SC multimode fiber, and reaches 3 km (2 miles)—far enough for most campus, warehouse, or industrial perimeter extensions. Plug-and-play operation: no field adjustments, auto-negotiation on the electrical side, LED status confirmation. Powered by included 8–24 VDC supply, consuming only 3W. Housed in Comnet's ComFit enclosure, standard size fits wall or rack mount.

Compatibility

Works with any surveillance system, access control panel, or network camera that sources or terminates 10/100 Mbps Ethernet—your VMS, NVR, IP camera, or reader controller on one end; your IP camera or network appliance on the other. Transparent to data encoding and major VMS platforms; IEEE 802.3 compliant. Use where fiber is already run or where you're deploying new single-mode fiber runs (this unit supports both multimode and single-mode variants within the series). Pair with PoE switches on the copper side if powering cameras across the link.

Installation Notes

Multimode fiber (this model) maxes out at 3 km; if your run exceeds that, specify the single-mode variant (reaches 20 km). Operating range is -40°C to +75°C—suitable for outdoor equipment enclosures and unheated shelters. All power and signal lines carry transient voltage protection, so power surges and lightning transients won't take the converter offline. Mount to wall or standard rack (19-inch); no optical or electrical field calibration required. Supply voltage tolerance is 8–24 VDC; typical industrial 12VDC or 24VDC PSUs work. MTBF >100,000 hours.
