Overview

The ATEN SN0108CO is an 8-port serial console server designed for out-of-band management of network equipment, servers, and serial-attached devices in rack deployments where continuous remote access is non-negotiable. The dual-power design means a failed power supply does not take down console access to the rest of your stack — a meaningful distinction in any environment running 24/7. The SN0108CO accepts 100–240V AC input at up to 1A, covering both domestic and international rack installations without an adapter or separate transformer. Three USB Type A ports support external storage or modem attachments for cellular failover scenarios. Firmware is current as of v1.8.178 (released 2024-05-02), with Linux Real TTY and Unix Fixed TTY drivers both at v1.1.101.

Compatibility

The SN0108CO integrates with a broad range of serial-console targets — Cisco IOS/NX-OS routers and switches, Juniper EX/MX series, APC and Vertiv PDUs, and any RS-232 serial device. Six modes of operation cover the primary integration patterns found in enterprise and data center environments: Console Management for standard out-of-band SSH/Telnet access; Console Management Direct for direct serial pass-through; Real COM Port for Windows-side virtual serial port mapping; TCP Server/Client and UDP Server/Client for custom socket-based automation and monitoring scripts; and Virtual Modem for legacy dial-up applications that expect an AT-command modem. Linux hosts use the Real TTY driver; Unix hosts use Fixed TTY. A DC-powered variant (SN0108COD, 36–48V DC, 5-pin terminal block) is available on request for telecom or industrial deployments where AC power is not present in the rack.

Installation Notes

Input power range is 100–240V~, 1A, 50/60Hz — connect to a protected outlet or UPS branch circuit. Operating humidity must remain between 0–80% RH non-condensing; do not install in unconditioned spaces or near cooling discharge points that may cause condensation. The recessed reset pushbutton requires a pin or small tool to actuate, preventing accidental factory resets in dense rack environments. For DC-power installations, use only the SN0108COD variant rated at 36–48V DC / 1.6A via the 5-pin terminal block; do not attempt DC input on the AC-rated SN0108CO.
