Overview
The ATEN SN0116CO is a 16-port serial console server built for out-of-band management of network infrastructure — routers, switches, firewalls, and serial-attached devices — in data centers, telecom closets, and distributed enterprise sites where direct console access must remain available even when the primary network is down. The SN0116CO supports six modes of operation: Console Management, Console Management Direct, Real COM Port, TCP Server/Client, UDP Server/Client, and Virtual Modem, giving network and infrastructure teams flexible serial-over-IP access from a single appliance. Dual rocker-switch power inputs (100–240V AC, 1A, 50/60Hz) provide supply redundancy — a meaningful safeguard in any environment where a single PSU failure cannot take down remote console access. For DC-powered deployments such as telecom cabinets or industrial racks, a dual DC variant (SN0116COD, 36–48V DC, 5-pin terminal block) is available on request.
Compatibility
The SN0116CO integrates with Linux hosts via Real TTY (v1.1.101) and with Unix environments via Fixed TTY (v1.1.101), enabling the serial ports to appear as native COM ports on the host OS — critical for legacy device management software that expects a local serial interface. The local console port is a single RJ-45 female connector, compatible with standard RJ-45-to-DB9 serial rollover cables. Firmware is field-upgradable; current production firmware is v1.8.178 (released 2024-05-02), ensuring the unit remains current without hardware replacement. For broader network management deployments, this unit pairs naturally with ATEN's KVM and IP management line where mixed serial and KVM console needs coexist.

Input power tolerance spans 100–240V AC, 1A, 50/60Hz — compatible with both North American and international rack environments without a line conditioner. Humidity operating range is 0–80% RH non-condensing; avoid installations in unconditioned outdoor enclosures or high-moisture environments without appropriate cabinet sealing. The local console RJ-45 port requires a rollover cable for RS-232 console sessions — standard straight-through Ethernet cables will not function here. Both power feeds should be connected to independent circuits or PDU banks to realize the redundancy benefit of the dual-supply design.
