Description

ATEN SN0148CO 48-Port Serial Console Server with Dual AC Power

Overview

The ATEN SN0148CO is a 48-port serial console server built for out-of-band management of network infrastructure — routers, switches, firewalls, and servers — in data centers and enterprise network closets where direct console access must remain available even when the primary network is down. The SN0148CO ships with dual AC power inputs (100–240VAC; 50/60Hz; 1.8A), so a single PSU failure does not interrupt remote console sessions on all 48 ports simultaneously. Three USB Type-A ports accommodate external storage or USB-to-serial adapters for edge-case device connectivity.

Compatibility

The SN0148CO supports six modes of operation — Console Management, Console Management Direct, Real COM Port, TCP Server/Client, UDP Server/Client, and Virtual Modem — making it compatible with a wide range of serial-attached devices across Cisco, Juniper, HPE, and other vendors that expose an RJ-45 or DB-9 console port. Linux hosts integrate via the Real TTY driver (v1.1.101); Unix environments use the Fixed TTY driver (v1.1.101). Both drivers were last updated 2024-05-08. For deployments requiring DC power input instead of AC, ATEN offers the SN0148COD variant (36–48 V DC; 1.6 A via 5-pin terminal block, 48V/27.3W consumption) — specify at order time as it is built to order.

Installation Notes

Input voltage range spans 100–240VAC with 50/60Hz frequency tolerance, so no step-down transformer is needed in international deployments. Humidity tolerance runs 0–80% RH non-condensing, which covers typical data center environments but rules out unconditioned outdoor enclosures. The recessed reset pushbutton prevents accidental factory resets in dense rack environments. Firmware is field-upgradeable; current production release is v1.8.178 (2024-05-02), applied via the packaged zip image without requiring hardware access to individual ports.
