The SN0108COD is ATEN's 8-port serial console server built for out-of-band management of network devices, servers, and serial-enabled equipment in installations where DC power is the facility standard. The dual DC power inputs (36–48V DC; 1.6A via 5-pin terminal block) provide redundancy that matters in telecom closets, industrial edge sites, and remote data center nodes where AC power is unavailable or unreliable. Six modes of operation — Console Management, Console Management Direct, Real COM Port, TCP Server/Client, UDP Server/Client, and Virtual Modem — mean the SN0108COD adapts to whatever protocol your management stack expects, rather than forcing a workflow change on your team. Three USB Type-A ports support local storage or peripheral attachment, and a recessed pushbutton reset prevents accidental factory resets in dense rack environments. Firmware is current as of May 2024 (v1.8.178), with Linux Real TTY and Unix Fixed TTY drivers available for mixed OS environments.
The SN0108COD integrates into the broader ATEN serial console server and network management ecosystem. Linux Real TTY driver (v1.1.101) supports kernel-level serial port mapping on Linux hosts; Unix Fixed TTY driver (v1.1.101) covers BSD and similar Unix environments. The six operation modes make it compatible with a wide range of serial console server management workflows — including legacy equipment that requires Virtual Modem emulation or raw TCP/UDP socket access. TCP Server/Client and UDP Server/Client modes support integration with SCADA systems, building automation controllers, and industrial serial devices that communicate over IP. For environments running standard AC power, ATEN's AC-input variant of this family covers the same 8-port serial management role without the DC power requirement.
DC power connects via a 5-pin terminal block rated for 36–48V DC at 1.6A — verify your DC bus voltage falls within this window before ordering; the SN0108COD is not rated for 12V or 24V DC systems commonly found in some PoE and access control installations. Maximum power draw is 15.79W at 48V DC. Operating humidity ceiling is 80% RH non-condensing, which rules out unconditioned outdoor enclosures or high-moisture industrial environments without additional environmental control. The recessed reset requires a tool or pin to actuate — intentional for rack-dense installs where accidental resets are a real risk. For rack management planning, account for the three USB-A ports when sizing adjacent equipment clearances. Firmware upgrades are field-deployable via the ATEN upgrade archive (SN01xxCO-SN91xxCO-v1.8.178.007.zip).
