The ATEN VK248 is a relay expansion module that extends the relay output capacity of compatible ATEN control systems by adding 8 independently switchable relay ports. When a single controller's onboard relays aren't enough to handle all the dry-contact loads in a room automation or AV control deployment — door locks, screen drops, projection screens, motorized blinds, lighting relays — the VK248 offloads that switching without requiring a second primary controller. The unit outputs 12 VDC at 300 mA and can be mounted recessed or rack-mounted depending on the installation environment. An 8-segment Expander ID switch on the unit lets you set a unique address when daisy-chaining multiple VK248 modules, keeping relay assignments distinct in the controller's configuration. A semi-recessed reset button and a USB Type-A port (firmware upgrade only) round out the front panel; the latest firmware is v4.2.413 (released 2026-05-18).
The VK248 is designed for use with the ATEN VK2100 control system platform. It is part of ATEN's VETRO control hardware ecosystem, which supports expandable relay, IR, serial, and sensor modules. Verify your VK2100 firmware supports the VK248 expansion module before deploying; ATEN's controller firmware and expansion module firmware should be kept in sync to avoid address conflicts. Multiple VK248 units can be assigned unique Expander IDs (1–8 positions on the segment switch) to allow stacking within a single system.
Operating humidity limit is 0–80% RH, non-condensing — avoid installations in unconditioned mechanical rooms subject to condensation. The USB port is strictly for firmware upgrades; do not wire it into a data network. Set the Expander ID switch before powering the unit — mid-run ID changes require a controller rescan. Recessed and rack mount options suit both millwork-integrated and equipment-rack deployments; confirm physical clearance for the recessed format before rough-in.
